Rising authoritarianism has been putting ever more pressure on civil society in post-Soviet countries.

Yet in spite of the growing challenges, citizen initiatives, NGOs and networks of individuals relentlessly continue to drive civic engagement, pushing for reforms and change. In order to offer solidarity and support to ever more pressurized civil societies across Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia, People in Need is to establish the Prague Civil Society Centre. This new Centre will nurture and support both established and emerging organizations and initiatives and will bring together active citizens of very different backgrounds with a special focus on innovation. The Centre aims to serve as a hub of civil society activists from all over Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia, facilitating working relations, knowledge-sharing, and exchange of rich and inspiring expertise that has been accumulated in the region.
